For years, summer programming in Downtown Danville lived at a single address. Prospect Park Plaza carried the concerts, the crafts, the Saturday afternoon crowd. This August is the first month that changes. A second outdoor venue, Theatre Plaza at 233 Front Street, opens with its own inaugural events, and the two spaces are close enough that a resident who plans well can stitch them into one evening.
That is the shift worth paying attention to. Not any single show, but the fact that downtown suddenly has two programmed stages within a few blocks of each other, running on overlapping weekends, drawing different crowds. Here is how the month sorts out, and where the friction points are worth knowing.
The new stage on Front Street
Theatre Plaza is the outdoor space next to the Village Theatre, and the Town has partnered with Sixth Line Studios to program it. Theatre Plaza's inaugural event, Jazz and Juice, will take place Friday, August 21, at 6:30 p.m. Guests can unwind in the summer evening air while enjoying a performance by a professional jazz quartet, with light snacks and drinks served. It is 21 and over.
The following Friday brings the venue's first fashion event. The following week, Theatre Plaza will host its first live fashion show with A Couture Closet Live Fashion Show on Friday, August 28, at 6:30 p.m. Models, actors, and community members will walk the outdoor runway in fashions from Downtown Danville consignment boutiques A Dress Change and Couture Closet. Two boutiques you have probably walked past on Hartz will suddenly be the whole event.

What is still running at Prospect Park Plaza
The older venue is not going quiet. Located in the heart of Downtown Danville at Hartz Avenue and Prospect Avenue, Prospect Park Plaza is a charming brick plaza featuring a raised stage, comfortable seating, and beautiful landscaping. Designed to connect seamlessly with the surrounding downtown, the plaza offers an inviting setting for performances, activities, and community gatherings year-round. The At the Plaza series continues on select Saturday afternoons from 4 to 6 p.m., free, no registration.

- Tuesday, August 4 · National Night Out. Danville residents are encouraged to connect with neighbors and local law enforcement during National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Residents may register to request a visit from a local Danville Police representative during their neighborhood event. This is a block-by-block event, not a downtown one, so it lives on whichever street organizes it.
- Tuesday, August 4 · Library and Community Center 30th anniversary. The Town of Danville and Contra Costa County Library will mark the 30th anniversary of the Danville Library and Community Center with a family celebration that includes story time at 11:15 a.m., followed by a free children's concert featuring Asheba at noon, and book-themed crafts and activities after the live performance. If you have kids, this is the daytime pick.
- Friday, August 7 · Student Film Festival. The Town of Danville's 2026 Student Film Festival gives student filmmakers an exciting chance to see their original work on the big screen at the historic Village Theatre in downtown Danville. Open to current middle and high school students in SRVUSD, including the graduating class of 2026, the festival welcomes students enrolled in public school, private school, or homeschooling programs. Selected films will be featured during a special community screening on August 7, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
- Sunday, August 30 · Hot Summer Sundays Car Show. Downtown Danville · Sunday, August 30th, 2026• 11:00 AM–4:00 PM · Hartz Ave & E Prospect Ave, Danville, CA 94526. This one closes off the same intersection that anchors Prospect Park Plaza, so plan accordingly if you are walking in from the north end.
The rule change worth knowing before you ride in
If you have been getting to downtown events by e-bike, read this once. The Town Council has adopted a new ordinance requiring riders of e-bikes and e-scooters to walk their devices while in all Town parks beginning Aug. 6, 2026. Riders may bring these e-bikes into parks, but they may not be ridden within park boundaries.
The practical read: the Iron Horse Regional Trail itself is not a Town of Danville park, so through-riding is unchanged. What changes is what happens once you pull off the trail into a park to lock up. Oak Hill Park, the areas around the Town Green, the paths that connect to Prospect Park Plaza off Hartz. Walk the device from the property line. It is a small rule, but the first weekend it applies is the same weekend as At the Plaza with Monica da Silva, so expect to see it enforced early.
The Saturday morning that ties the month together
None of this replaces the anchor. The Danville Farmers' Market is open Saturdays year-round, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Railroad Avenue Municipal Parking Lot, located at the corner of Railroad and Prospect Avenues. The address on record with the operator is 205 Railroad Ave., Danville, California, which puts it a two-minute walk from Prospect Park Plaza and roughly the same distance from Theatre Plaza on Front Street.
Two things about the market worth knowing if you have not been in a while. First, the Merchant at the Market program invites Danville-based businesses to host a booth at the Farmers' Market without needing to participate every week. Two booths are available each week. Danville-based businesses are eligible to host a booth by signing up in advance for this program online. That is why the vendor mix rotates. The bakery you saw last Saturday may not be back this Saturday, and the reverse is true for whoever caught your eye today. Second, while we love the dogs of Danville, local health codes prohibit them from visiting the market unless they are certified service animals. Leave the golden at home or with a friend on a bench across the street.
One way to run a Saturday, August 22
If you want a template for the busiest weekend of the month, this one works. Farmers' market at 9:30. Coffee and a pastry from a rotating vendor. Home to drop off produce by 11. Back downtown for the Hot Summer Sundays car show setup on Hartz beginning to fill in Sunday morning, or if you are early, an Iron Horse Trail loop before the heat lands. At the Plaza with Jeff Tamelier from 4 to 6 in the shade of the raised stage. Dinner at one of the Hartz Avenue restaurants while the plaza empties. That is the day. It costs the price of dinner and whatever you spend on peaches.
Why this August reads differently
For years, the argument for programming Prospect Park Plaza harder was partly defensive. The Town of Danville has announced a new concert series aimed at staving off the winter blues and bringing new life to Prospect Park Plaza, which was impacted last year by both the closure of a prominent Starbucks location and a fire that struck neighboring businesses on the block. That was January's story. The August story is different. It is the Town spreading programming to a second address rather than deepening it at the first. A single-plaza downtown becomes a two-plaza downtown, and the walkable distance between them starts to matter as an amenity in its own right.
Whether that pattern holds into the fall is a question for October. For now, it is the reason your calendar has more on it this month than it did last August.
